If you're looking for cheap ways to experience Amritsar's arts, the best place to start would be the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Memorial Hall Museum. It tells the story of how British soldiers killed unarmed civilians during an anti-colonial demonstration in 1919. Admission is free if you're under 18 years old or below 5 feet tall; otherwise it costs Rs 10 ($1). The museum also has an audio guide available for free download at its website, which provides details about each room as well as background information about what happened there during that time period (and more).
