Salem is a beautiful city located in the heart of Oregon's Willamette River Valley. The city has several Salem Gardens and parks and historical sites that are perfect for exploring. Salem is often referred to as the birthplace of the American Revolution. It was here that, in 1782, an assembly of citizens met for the first time since 1639. At this meeting, it was decided that they would form a government and select a governor—the first steps toward forming our nation's government.
In addition to being the birthplace of America's independence movement, Salem also played host to several other significant events in history:
-Salem was one of the first cities to support America's independence from Britain. -Salem is the site of the first American settlement on land that would later become Massachusetts. -The Battle of Bunker Hill took place just outside of Salem in 1775. The battle was an important victory for American forces and helped establish their reputation as fierce fighters.
The city is home to some of the oldest churches in the country, including many colonial-era churches. The oldest church in Salem is First Church, which was built in 1629 and still stands today. The next oldest church on this list is Old South Church, which was built four years later than First Church and has been standing since 1634.

The Peabody Essex Museum is one of the most popular museums in Salem. It’s known for its extensive collection of Asian art and culture, including a replica of a Chinese Scholar’s Garden. There are also plenty of other attractions in Salem, from Lace making to old cemeteries filled with headstones that date back centuries

You can visit the Blue Coat School Museum where you will see exhibits on the history of Salem and other communities in Norfolk County including Yarmouth Port. There are also displays about local shipbuilding companies who built ships for Canada during World War II. The museum is open from May through mid-October with hours varying depending on season: 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm Tuesday through Friday; 11 am - 5 pm Saturday; closed Sunday & holidays except for July 1st when it opens at 10:30 am for Independence Day celebrations!
