Somnath is a city in the state of Gujarat, India. It is located on the banks of the river Narmada and is famous for its temple complex. The city has a rich history dating back to early 2nd millennium BC when it was one of three major cities of Kuru Kingdom ruled by Paurava dynasty. Somnath Temple was built during this period and it's still considered as one of the most important Hindu shrines today.
The city of Somnath is located in Gujarat, India. It has a rich history and culture. The city was built by the Chandel kings of Western India in late 12th century AD to commemorate their victory over Rajputs during the Battle of Khanwa (1193).
Somnath means "moonlit" or "sunny". This name was given to it because of its location on an island surrounded by rivers and forests which make it seem like a fairy tale island paradise.

Somnath Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area located in Gujarat, India. It covers an area of about 20 km2 and has been declared as a national wildlife sanctuary by the government in 1992.
The sanctuary houses several species of birds including the painted stork, kingfisher and black-winged kite, along with mammals like leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), jungle cat (Felis chaus) and common palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). Other animals seen here include deer like sambar deer, swamp deer etc., reptiles such as alligator snapping turtle etc., amphibians like green toads etc., insects like hornet moth caterpillar which is one among world's largest butterflies having wingspan up to 30 cm

Somnath Aarti is a Hindu religious ceremony. It is performed at the Somnath Temple to worship Lord Shiva, who had visited this place on his way back from Mount Kailash. The festival is celebrated for nine days and involves the worship of various deities including Lord Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha. On the last day of Navratri festival, an aarti ceremony takes place in which devotees offer milk milk to celebrate it as sacred event that symbolizes fertility and prosperity in their lives
Somnath Marine National Park is a marine national park in the state of Gujarat, India. It was declared as a marine protected area in 1976 and has since then been expanded to include adjoining waters, including those of the Gulf of Khambhat and Gulf of Kutch. The Garden and parks covers an area about 1 square mile (2 sq km), making it one of the smallest protected areas in India.
Somnath Marine National Park has been recognized by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it supports populations that are considered vulnerable to extinction due to their small population size, restricted range and low levels of protection from threats such as pollution and fishing pressure
The Somnath caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a popular pilgrimage site and a popular meditation spot. The cave temples are also known for their sculptures from the Gupta era (8th to 10th century).
The walls of these caves have been carved out by water erosion over thousands of years. The earliest inscriptions date back to 200 BCE, with some dating back as far as 5th century BCE when it was first built by King Chandragupta Maurya who was born in Pataliputra (modern Patna). He later moved his capital here after conquering present day Patna city which is located on the banks of River Ganga just north west from Somnath Temples and pilgrimage sites!
Somnath Gita Mandir is a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. It is located in Somnath, Gujarat. The temple was built by Raja Somnath of the Solanki dynasty in 1009 AD and has been designated as World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1979.[1]
The main structure of this temple consists of three concentric circular walls surrounding a smaller inner sanctum where Lord Shiva himself resides with his wife Parvati, their son Ganesha and daughter Shakti.[2] There are two more small shrines within this shrine: one with Nandi (the bull), who represents Lord Shiva's power; and another shrine dedicated to Gayatri Devi (the consort) inside her own private chamber known as Gayatri Mahalaya Mandir.
