The AIC is being held at the historic Taj Lake Palace Hotel & Spa in Agartala city. Agartala is a city in the Indian state of Tripura. It is the capital of Tripura and one of the largest cities in Northeast India. The city has an estimated population of 3 million people as per 2011 census.
Agartala became a part of British India when it was ceded to them by Maharaja Manikya Deb Narayan Dev on 17 October 1824 (the very day he signed over his kingdom). In 1826, it was made a part of Bengal province under Lord Dalhousie's Doctrine whereby 'all lands belonging to local rulers within a defined area are taken over by the British government'. This led to large scale migration from other parts of India into Tripura under various schemes including Zamindari Abolition Act, Permanent Settlement etc., resulting in rapid increase in population during this period
