The festival commemorates many aspects of Bhopal's history including its role as one of India's first cities to be established by the Mughals during their rule over India. The event also celebrates how it was once home to one of India’s largest oil refineries which helped make it one of India’s most prosperous cities at that time.
About Ujjain: Ujjain is a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Ujjain District, which it has been since 1875. Located at a distance of 790 km from Bhopal, it is one of the five holy cities in India. According to mythology, it was founded by Maharaja Udit Raj, the son-in-law (Yugamvya) of Lord Krishna. The city was known as Kusumpura during that period and later came to be known as the City of King Iravanaka and Kusumapura during the medieval period. This festival is held in February every year and celebrates the beauty of the city's lakes with a variety of events, including boat races, water sports, and a carnival. The lake festival takes place on Bhopal Lake located on the outskirts of Bhopal. It has been an annual tradition since 1970 when it was started by Dr. Raja Ram Singh Kachhawa who was then mayor of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The lake festival includes various activities such as boat races (sponsored by various companies), jet-skiing competitions and even flying kites on windy days!
The Bhopal International Film Festival is an annual event held in the month of November. This festival showcases the best of Indian and international films.
The first edition of this festival was organized by the Bhopal Regional Cultural Centre (BRCC) in 2014, and it was held every year since 2015 until now. The second edition was held at Hamidia Theater from 14-18 October 2018 with an aim to promote cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan by showcasing highly acclaimed international productions on screen together with students from respective countries who also presented their works during this period as part of their studies at universities like Delhi University or Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Bhopal Ramlila: This festival is held annually in the month of October and features a series of plays depicting the story of Ramayana. The main attraction of this event is that it includes a number of religious ceremonies and rituals, which are performed by members from different communities.
The first day starts with an offering to Lord Rama's feet at the Bada Bagheli village near Dhar Rd., followed by a procession around town carrying idols made out of clay or wood depicting Lord Rama and Sita; both are decorated with colorful cloths, flowers, and other decorations. On this day, people also offer prayer for peace & prosperity for their families & countrymen at temples all over town like Shiva Temple on Sampark Marg Road or Hanuman Temple near Collector's Office
