Upcoming Events & Festivals in Dehradun

Dehradun is a city in Uttarakhand, India. It is the headquarters of Chamoli district and Dehradun district. Dehradun was declared as the cleanest city in India under Swachhta Abhiyan by the Government of India in 2012. The city has more than 400 schools and 100 colleges that offer higher education facilities to its residents.

Dehradun Literature Festival

The Dehradun Literature Festival is held every year in Dehradun. It's a month-long event that runs from January through March and has various events related to books and reading, including poetry slams and book talks by authors.

In addition to this festival, there are also several other literary events that take place around Delhi during the same time period.

Bikhauti Mela

Bikhauti Mela is a religious fair held in the month of January. It is held in the city of Bikhauti, near Haridwar and it's one of the most popular festivals in Dehradun. The main attraction at this festival is a statue of Lord Shiva which is worshipped by thousands daily. The other main attraction at this festival is that it has many shops selling souvenirs and other items related to religion or culture.

Jhanda Fair

Jhanda Fair is a fair held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. The fair is held at the Dehradun Lake. The fair is held on the full moon day of Jhanda month of Hindu calendar. It was started in 1949 and has been growing steadily every year since then.

Magh Mela

Magh Mela is a Hindu festival that is held in July. It's held in the month of Magha, which falls between June and August in the Gregorian calendar.

Robber's Cave Festival

Robber's Cave Festival is held in Dehradun every year. The festival was started in 1965, when a group of teachers from the city decided to celebrate Lord Rama's victory over Ravana by organizing an event at Robber's Cave. The names of these teachers are still remembered today and they have been honoured with statues on their gravesites.

The festival continues to be celebrated every year with much enthusiasm by both locals and tourists alike at this beautiful spot near Dehradun's famous tourist attraction 'Rambagh Palace'.

Basant Panchami

Basant Panchami is a festival celebrated in the month of April. It is also known as Basant Ka Mela and held at Basant Panchami Park. The celebration marks the birth of Lord Rama, who is said to have been born on this day in 1469 BC.

Basant Panchami Park - Located near Jankipuram Lake, this park has an open-air auditorium where you can watch performances of classical Indian dance forms like Kathakali, Kathakali Natyam and Manipuri dance among others

Dehradun International Film Festival

The Dehradun International Film Festival is held from March to May and is held at the Dehradun International Film Festival Grounds. It is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prayas Foundation and various other organizations.

Fairs of Mahasu Devta

If you’re looking for a festival that celebrates the goddess Parvati, and one that takes place in the month of Phalgun, then you may want to check out Mahasu Devta. It is celebrated on the tenth day after Holi, which falls around February 5th-6th. This festival is also known as “Mahasur Amavasya Ka Mela” or “The Festival Of The Pregnant Goddess Of Mahasu Hill Town” (or just plain old “Mahasu Devta Festival).

Shravan Mela

The Shravan Mela is a three-day festival held in Dehradun every year. It's an annual event that celebrates the arrival of monsoon season and marks the beginning of summer.

The main attraction of this festival is mithai (sweets), which are sold by vendors at various locations around Dehradun on its route from Kedar Ghat to Nigam Sarovar Mandir. Traditionally, people would make their way to these spots on foot or by cycles during this period as they would need provisions for their journey back home after spending time away from family members during monsoon season. This tradition has been carried over into modern times where people now use motorbikes instead of horses for transport purposes because it's faster than walking along with heavy loads on your back!

The idea behind this festival was to celebrate the traditional food culture of Dehradun with flavors from across India. It aims at promoting local cuisine through various events which include cooking classes, street food stalls, live music performances and more!

Holi Festival

Holi is a spring festival that celebrates the return of spring and marks the arrival of new life. The festival is celebrated on the first day of the month of Chaitra in India, which falls between March 21 and April 19. It's also referred to as "Holi" (the festival) or "Sawan" (the season).

The origin of this festival dates back to ancient times when people would celebrate with colors, sweets, and bonfires by throwing colored powder at each other while dancing around them. Teej Festival

Ganga Dussehra

The festival has its origins in ancient times when Lord Shiva took birth as Ganesha who was later married to his own mother Parvati who gave birth to Kartik Devta - Lord Shiva's son. This marriage between these two forms came as a boon for all living beings because they could now access water through their holy river which was once inaccessible due to its impurity before this event occurred thanks to Shukdev ji's penance .
