Manikgad Fort is one of the most important historical sites in Maharashtra. It was built by the Maratha king Peshwa Bajirao I in 1724 and stands as a symbol of power, authority and prestige. The fort was built by the Satavahana dynasty in AD 200-300 CE and later expanded by Chalukyas who ruled over this region until 1024 CE.
