Thane is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated on the banks of Terekhol River and has been known for its textile mills since the British Raj. Thane is also known as "The Manchester of India". Thane was founded by Ajit Singh, who was a descendant of Jat people from Rewari district who migrated to Delhi after their defeat at the hands of Mughals during Sher Shah Suri's reign.

The Thane Art and Craft Fair is a two-day event held in the month of February. It's held at the Thane Municipal Corporation Grounds, which is located near the city center.

The Thane Theatre Festival is a festival of theatre, dance, music and film that takes place every year in Thane. It is one of the oldest festivals in India and has been organized by the Mumbai State Committee for Tourism since 1972. The first edition was held in 1972 at Centenary Hall (now known as Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum) with a total attendance of 20 people. The festival now holds an annual event which attracts over 10 lakh visitors from all over India as well as abroad each year.
