Thane is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated on the banks of Terekhol River and has been known for its textile mills since the British Raj. Thane is also known as "The Manchester of India". Thane was founded by Ajit Singh, who was a descendant of Jat people from Rewari district who migrated to Delhi after their defeat at the hands of Mughals during Sher Shah Suri's reign.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations in Thane

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom, knowledge, and success. It's celebrated on Vijayadashami - the eighth lunar day in the traditional Hindu calendar month of Shravan (July-August).

Thane Theatre Festival

The Thane Theatre Festival is a festival of theatre, dance, music and film that takes place every year in Thane. It is one of the oldest festivals in India and has been organized by the Mumbai State Committee for Tourism since 1972.
