Ancient History of Rajsamand
Rajsamand has a long and rich history, dating back to the 8th century CE when it was part of the kingdom of Mewar. During this time, the town served as an important trade hub between India and Persia, with merchants travelling through here in search of exotic goods. In 1527 AD, Rana Sanga defeated Ibrahim Lodhi at Khanwa and expanded his empire up to Rajasthan’s borders. He appointed Maharana Pratap Singh I as governor who then founded the city of Udaipur in 1559 AD which included what is now known as Rajsamand district within its boundaries. After several battles with Mughal forces, Maharana Pratap Singh I eventually emerged victorious by 1615 AD and continued to rule over Mewar until his death in 1620 AD when he was succeeded by his son Amar Singh II who extended control over many parts of Gujarat and Malwa including Rajsamand district.
