Cochin is a city of contrasts, with the ancient and the modern coexisting side by side. Its rich history can be found in its cultural centers such as Mattancherry Palace and Fort Kochi, while its vibrant nightlife can be experienced at Broadway Market or any of the many bars around town. If you're looking for something different from other cities in India, this is the place to go!
Mattancherry Palace is the oldest palace in Kerala and also one of the most important tourist attractions in Kochi. Built in 1650 by the Portuguese as a residence for their viceroy, it later became a royal residence for other rulers such as Tipu Sultan and Rani Chennamma. Today, this beautiful structure houses various exhibits that showcase both history and culture.
The museum has three floors: ground floor houses historical artifacts like paintings depicting scenes from Mattancherry’s past; second floor displays sculptures depicting Hindu gods; third floor shows paintings that depict Christian saints. The fourth floor showcases silverware made by Dutch craftsmen during their rule between 1795-1800
If you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend an evening, consider taking a sunset cruise on the backwaters of Kochi. The city is famous for its beautiful skyline and stunning architecture, but it's also known for its serene ambience.
This can be easily enjoyed by spending time on one of their many colorful boats that take passengers through the town's waterways at dusk. You'll see all sorts of temples, churches and mosques lit up as they glow in the early evening light (and if it rains during your visit, no worries! They have umbrellas).
The best part? There are plenty of other things to do while you're there too - like shopping or having dinner at one of their many restaurants or bars—so don't worry about feeling bored!
The Paradesi Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth. It was built in 1791, and is a beautiful building that's open to the public. You can visit this historic site on your own or with an organized tour.
Broadway Market is one of the most bustling markets in Kochi. It has over 300 stalls and sits on a large plot of land, making it easy to get lost in this massive market. There are many shops selling souvenirs, spices, food and clothes at this popular spot!
The best places to eat in Kochi include:
The Seafood Restaurant, located on Mattancherry Road, is a popular spot for a casual meal. They offer a wide variety of seafood dishes including fried prawns, oysters and crabs—you can choose from their menu or try something new!
Amma's Café serves traditional Kerala dishes that are made with fresh ingredients from local farms. Their lunch buffet is one of the most popular choices for visitors to this area who want to sample traditional cuisine at affordable prices (it costs just Rs 1000 per person).
If you're looking for something more upscale than what you'd find at most restaurants in Kochi then head over to Shanthi's Kitchen where they specialize in Italian cuisine with some Indian touches thrown into the mix too (for example they serve pasta instead of rice).
Kathakali, or Thirayattam as it's known in Kerala, is a classical dance form from Kerala. It's been around since the 14th century and has a long history in this state.
Kathakali performances are popular across India, but they're especially popular in Kerala where they have been featured at various events including Queen Elizabeth II's coronation (in 1953), Republic Day celebrations (in 1959) and even during Pope Francis' visit to India last year!
The Mattancherry Spice Market is a busy place, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sights and smells. But if you're looking for a more intimate experience with your spices, the market offers several options for shopping. You can buy directly from vendors in their stalls or visit one of the many food courts that offer a wide variety of local dishes (including dosas) made with different kinds of spices from around India.
If you're interested in learning about how Kerala cuisine has adapted to use different types of herbs than those used in other parts of India—or even outside India—this is an excellent place to start!
The Hill Palace Museum is a must-see for anyone visiting Kochi. The museum is located in Kochi city, and it's open from 9:00AM to 5:00PM every day except Monday and Tuesday.
The Hill Palace Museum has many different exhibits that can be visited by the public. One of these exhibits includes the royal family's personal belongings and furniture from throughout their history. Another exhibit shows off some of the most important works of art created by artists during this period in time (from 1500s - 1800s). Other exhibits include replicas of rooms inside buildings where you might have stayed during your trip if you're interested in seeing what it was like living there!
If you’re looking for an adventure, why not take a walking tour in Kochi? The city has several well-known landmarks that are worth visiting but if you want to experience more than just sightseeing, then hiring a local guide is the way to go. A good tour will give you an insight into the history and culture of Kochi while also introducing some lesser known spots.
If you’re planning on visiting multiple places in Kerala during your trip then hiring a car isn't necessary as most attractions are within walking distance from each other; however if this isn't possible because there aren't enough days left before departure or simply because it's too exhausting trying out endless activities every day then using public transport instead could work out better since they're cheaper than taxis/taxis per ride (at least during peak season).
If you're looking for a day trip to the beautiful beaches of Cherai and Vypin, Kerala, then this is the place for you.
Cherai is a small fishing village on the backwaters of Kochi. It has been called "the prettiest place in India" by many travelers and it's easy to see why! The town is surrounded by coconut groves, rice fields and lush forests that are perfect for hiking or just relaxing in nature.
Vypin is another small fishing village located along the same canal system as Cherai—so if you want to take your trip there too before heading back home again (or even staying longer), it won't cost much more than one night at either location would have cost otherwise!
The nightlife in Kochi is vibrant and exciting. There are many bars and clubs available to visit, from which you can choose a bar or club that suits your tastes, as well as the time of day.
The nightlife in Kochi is not too expensive, so it's perfect for those on a budget who want to experience some fun without breaking the bank. It's also not too crowded either; there will always be space available at any given venue because people don't come out unless they know someone who does!
Finally, if you're looking for a night out that won't make your ears bleed or give you nightmares afterwards (or both), then this isn't it!
If you're looking to escape the city and spend some time in nature, a visit to a tea plantation is an excellent way to do so. Tea plantations are great for getting out of the city, relaxing, and enjoying the local culture. You'll also learn about history by exploring these historical sites!
The Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort is a luxury resort that sits on the island of Vypeen. The resort has a private beach, lagoon and swimming pool with panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. You can also enjoy activities like fishing or kite surfing at this secluded location.
The Cochin Carnival, a lively festival held every December, is a celebration of the culture of Kerala. It is one of the most joyous festivals in India and marks the end of heavy monsoon rains. The carnival includes parades with floats decorated with flowers, costumes and traditional dance performances.
It’s easy to see why Kochi tops our list as one of the most beautiful cities in India. Its rich history, dynamic culture, and impressive modern infrastructure make it an ideal destination for travelers on a budget or those looking for more than just a beach vacation. Whether you want to explore the city on foot or via an air-conditioned bus tour, there are so many things to do in Kochi!
