Introduction to Datia: A brief overview of the city's history and culture.
The ancient town was founded in 7th century by Raja Bhoj, who is said to be a descendant of Bhagwan Buddha. It was named after him as "Datya", meaning "the dark one". This name stuck even though it has since been changed several times.
The city is located at an altitude of 1,371 meters above sea level on the banks of river Ken River (also known as Kena), which flows through Datia district before emptying into river Ganges near Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh state

Ravan Dahan or Ravana's Burning: This event celebrates the defeat of Ravana by Lord Ramachandra. The effigy of Ravana is lit on fire by a priest on top of Bhairavji hill near Shahrudpur Village in Datia District
Holi is a festival that celebrates spring, the coming of summer and the arrival of new life. It is also known as Phagwah or Phagwa. The word 'Holi' means colored in Hindi language. It is celebrated on the night before Ashwin or Kartik Shukla Shuddha Pratipada according to Hindu calendar (October-November).

Janmashtami - This festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna who was born to Devaki on this day. It starts with family members gathering around an idol made out of clay or metal and worshiping it until dusk falls (around 9 pm). After this they light lamps as part of a processional that takes place every year on Janmashtami day itself or during its preceding night hours if there are no lamps available then too! There is a large number of sporting events in Datia. The city hosts the Datia Marathon, which is a 42km road race that takes place every year on the third Sunday in April. It has been held since 1983 and attracts thousands of participants from all over India.

The Datia Children’s Film Festival is one of the most popular festivals in India with a huge following. It has been organized every year since 1989 by ‘The Friends of Children’ Foundation (FOC) which was founded by Dr Amartya Sen, who was also a governor of West Bengal till his death in 2015. The FOC aims to create awareness about different issues related to children and promote their rights through various initiatives such as this one which consists of screening films made by children or involving them in some way during its event. This year’s theme will be ‘It's About Time! Empowering Youth Through Digital Media’ while previous years focused on issues like health & hygiene; nutrition; education; social inclusion etc..
