Nagarhole National Park is one of the most famous national parks in India. It is located in the southern part of Karnataka state, on the border with Tamil Nadu state. It covers an area of 1,412 square kilometers (500 square miles) and has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. As it's name suggests, Nagarhole means "Fortified Valley" in Kannada language and this name can be attributed to the fact that there are many forts here which served as strongholds during British rule over India back then.
