He became active in student politics and also worked as a reporter for various newspapers including “The Times of India” during its first independent existence from 1889-1906. After graduating from law college he moved back home where he began practicing law until 1908 when he became involved with public service as a member of Legislative Assembly (MLA). He was elected MLA five times consecutively between 1910-1929 before being appointed Chief Minister again between 1937-1945 after being elected unopposed twice due to no other candidate contesting against him!
