Upcoming Events & Festivals in Poovar

Poovar is a village in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. It is located about 22 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram on the way to Kovalam beach, and falls under Varkala Taluk.

Poovar Beach Festival

Poovar Beach Festival is a festival that is held at Poovar beach in Kerala. It is a festival that is held in the month of March every year.

The main objective of this festival is to celebrate the arrival of spring and also to mark out its arrival by throwing colorful balls into the sea during this time.

Onam Celebrations

Onam is a festival celebrated in the state of Kerala, India. The festival is dedicated to commemorate the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali and his return to his kingdom after a long period.

Onam is known as Thiruvonam and falls on the first day of Malayalam month Chingam (August - September). It marks the beginning of harvest season in Kerala with special poojas performed by womenfolk at temples, who worship Goddess Bhagavathy (Goddess Parvati).

The nine-day celebrations include pooja (worship), pujas (prayers), pradakshina (procession around the temple), darshan (seeing) and havan s at night when lamps are lit around temples by devotees before going home

Kovalam Literary Festival

Kovalam Literary Festival is an annual literary and cultural event held in Poovar, Kerala. It was started in 2002 by Kerala Chalachitra Academy (KCA), a literary organization that undertakes various activities including publishing books and magazines, organizing exhibitions etc.

The festival is organized by KCA with the support of Government of Kerala through its Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA). The festival aims at promoting literature through various events such as book presentations, debates etc., which attract people from all over India as well as foreign countries like Canada & USA

Coir Festival

Coir is a soft fiber made from the husk of coconut. It can be used for making mats, baskets and other items. Some people use it to make paper and other products as well. The Coir Festival will take place every year at Poovar Beach on December 15th and 16th in 2019.

Eid Celebrations

Eid is a festival of Muslims and it is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It is considered to be the most important religious holiday in Islam, marking the end of Ramadan and beginning of Shawwal (the 10th month in Islamic calendar). Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and celebrates with feasting, prayer and giving gifts to loved ones. The date for Eid has already been determined based on astronomical observations as well as calculations made by Muslim scholars

Pongal Festival

Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated by the Tamils in Tamil Nadu. It is a spring festival and it is celebrated when the sun begins to rise on the day before New Year's Day, which falls on January 1st. The day after that, it will be followed by Dhanurmasam, which marks the end of winter and heralds in springtime.

Pongal Festival:

The first day of Pongal is known as Thanthi and it commemorates Lord Shiva's first visit to this earth during his marriage with Parvati (Goddess Lakshmi). On this particular day many temples open their doors for people who wish to worship Lord Shiva or offer prayers so they can get blessings from him during their lifetime or after death
