Kanchipuram is a popular tourist destination in Tamil Nadu. It is a town in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu that is known for its temples and monuments. Located on the banks of the Kaveri River, this place has been attracting people since ages because of its beauty and spiritual power.
The city was first mentioned in historical texts as "Kanniyakumari" during AD 550-575 by an early Christian missionary named St Thomas Christianity spread rapidly during this period due to which many Christian churches were built here including one dedicated to Mariamman (the goddess). Later on it became capital of Madurai Kingdom during 15th century CE until 1784 when it fell under British rule after winning wars against them earlier on..
Exploring the Kanchipuram Temples and pilgrimage sites are a great way to spend a day. The temples have been around for over 2,000 years and all of them are beautiful, from the largest one at Tirukalvilai in Chennai to small shrines dedicated to deities like Ganesha and Murugan. It’s also fun for kids because there are lots of fairies flying around! You can make your own little prayer wheels with them if you want!
If you want something more active than just looking at monuments, there is also plenty to do here as well: hike up Mt. Kailasam or swim at Pratapgad Fort; go fishing on Lake Pichavaram; visit Sri Anantha Vilasam / Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple complex which has dozens upon dozens of temples built by different kings throughout history (though some were later destroyed).
Ekambareswarar Temple is one of the most popular temples in Kanchipuram. It is located in the centre of town, and it's a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus. The temple was built by Raja Raja Chola I (985-1014 CE), who also constructed many other important structures in Kanchipuram including Pudukkottai Brihadeeswara Temple and Sri Mahalakshmi Amman Temple at Tiruvannamalai.
The main deities worshipped at this temple are Shiva and Parvathi with their consorts Kamakshi and Subhadra respectively; hence it's called Ekambareswarar as they represent Parvathi as well as Shiva himself!
Kailasanathar Temple is a Hindu temple located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and renewal. The temple is also known as the "Temple of the Sun".
The temple has been built by Raja Raja Chola I and it was completed in 1017 CE.[1] The presiding deity (Shiva) here is called Kailasanathar or Kaliamman.[2] This beautiful temple has many other shrines dedicated to various gods like Brahma Narayana Swamy, Murugan (Dhanuswamy), Ganeshaswarannar etc., but they are not so much famous as this main shrine itself.
The Varadharaja Perumal Temple is located in Kanchipuram, a town located on the banks of the River Cauvery. The temple itself was built by Pandiya kings who ruled this area during the 6th century CE. It became an important Hindu shrine and today it stands as one of India's most famous pilgrimage sites.
The temple features an impressive gopura or gateway that leads into its courtyard, which has been described as "one of India’s most magnificent temples". Kamakshi Amman Temple is located in the town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kamakshi Amman was built in 1008 AD and it’s one of the most important temples in India. It is also known as “Kali Mandapam” because it contains four doors that represent four different regions (or worlds) where Kali resides: heaven, earth, hell and purgatory.
The architecture of this temple is very impressive with its high ceilings topped by ornate carvings depicting scenes from mythology such as Vishnu riding Garuda or Shiva dancing with Parvati on his shoulders while holding their child Nandi who represents patience and endurance; these carvings represent what people believe about these gods when they visit them at home or at work places like Kanchipuram restaurants etcetera
The Vaikuntha Perumal Temple is located in the town of Kanchipuram and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple was built in the 7th century AD and has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also a major pilgrimage site for Hindus who come from all over India and abroad to pay their respects at this sacred place.
The Sri Ulagalandar Temple is located in the village of Thirupathi, Kanchipuram. It was built by a King named Pallava. The temple has been dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi, who are also known as Srinivasa Perumal and Mangala Devasthaliar respectively.
The architecture of this temple is very beautiful with intricately carved pillars that have been made out of black granite stone with floral patterns on them. There are also some images in this temple which depict scenes from mythology including Ganesh holding an elephant on his lap while riding it through water; Parvathi dancing around Shiva's neck; Nandi standing guard over Sita before her exile into exile by Rama; Varuna carrying Bhudevi across the ocean so she could reach her husband Indrajit who had kidnapped her earlier on account of lust for power over all creation!
The Varadharaja Swami Temple is located in the town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. It was built by one of the most famous kings of South India, Rajaraja Chola I around 985 AD and is dedicated to Lord Murugan or Subramanya (a son of Shiva). The main deity here is Shiva's consort Parvathi (or Kamakshi), who was given birth by him after killing his own father Daksha Prajapati. She has been worshiped as an aspect of Shakti since time immemorial and considered one of four great Dieties along with Brahma, Vishnu & Siva respectively
The Vadapalani Murugan Temple is located in the historic city of Vadapalani, which makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kanchipuram. The temple was built in the mid-12th century by Tirumalai Nayakkar, who ruled from 1265 to 1290 AD. It is dedicated to Lord Muruga and houses several sculptures depicting him riding a peacock and fighting demons on his mount Garuda.
